Quirky Ways to Celebrate March

Tired of St. Patrick’s Day, wearing green, and eating corned beef and cabbage? Read on to find some more unusual ways to celebrate in March.

(some of these links are affiliate links – please see my disclosure on the sidebar)

Read Charlotte’s Web

March 1st is National Pig Day!  You can read Charlotte’s Web, watch Babe, and eat bacon. (Wait, is that kind of weird?)  And you can just keep on reading, because March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday (Theodor Geisel) and National Read Across America day.  This would be an awesome day to start a new read aloud habit, or start a new book.

Learn and sing The Star Spangled Banner

March 3rd is National Anthem Day, the day The Star Spangled Banner was declared our national Anthem. Good luck with those high notes!

Blow Bubbles!

The second week of March is National Bubble Week. Apartment Therapy shares a post of 9 different bubble solutions (and there’s more in the comments). Might be a good way to experiment – which works best? Science!

Or take a nice long bubble bath while the kids watch Bubble Guppies. 🙂

Channel Your Inner Control Freak

March 30 is I am in Control Day. Based on the famous quote from Alexander Haig after the assassination attempt on President Reagan, it has morphed into a day to get your life under control – create goals, start bullet journaling, decluttering, etc.  I personally would like to take it a step further and force everyone to bow to my inner genius  do my bidding  attempt to listen for real just.this.once.

Up Your STEM Game

March is host to a number of great days to celebrate math and science: March 3rd is inventor Alexander Graham Bell’s birthday, March 14th is Pi Day (get it, 3.14? This year they are rounding up: 3.1416) and also Albert Einstein’s birthday, March 29th is Earth Hour (where people switch off non-essential lights for one hour to bring awareness to environmental conservation), and March 31st is Bunsen Burner day in honor of the birthday of its inventor.  Make it STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) with the birthdays of Michelangelo (March 6) and Vincent Van Gogh (March 30).

We love this Discovering the World’s Greatest… series by Mike Venezia.

Do you have any unusual ways you celebrate in March? I’d love to hear about them!
